Is Online Personal Training Effective?

If the pandemic had never happened, the likelihood that I would today be training people online would be small. In fact, I wonder what the online fitness industry would look like. But that is a moot point.

In recent years, online personal training has gained popularity, not only as a result of the pandemic, but also as a convenient and cost-effective alternative to traditional in-person training. However, many people still question whether online personal training is as effective as working with a personal trainer face-to-face.

It is important to understand that online personal training is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Just like traditional personal training, online personal training will be most effective when tailored to your specific needs and goals. A good online personal trainer will take the time to understand your fitness level, lifestyle, and goals before creating a customized workout plan for you.

One of the biggest advantages of online personal training is its flexibility. You can workout whenever and wherever you want, without having to worry about scheduling appointments or traveling to a gym. This makes it easier to incorporate exercise into your busy lifestyle, and can be particularly helpful if you have a hectic work schedule or live in a remote area with limited access to fitness facilities.

Another benefit of online personal training is that it can be more affordable than traditional in-person training. Many online personal trainers offer lower rates than their in-person counterparts, which can be a significant cost-saving over time. Additionally, you can avoid the additional costs associated with gym memberships and transportation to and from the gym.

Online personal training can also be effective in keeping you accountable and motivated. Many online personal trainers offer regular check-ins and progress tracking, which can help keep you on track towards your fitness goals. Some online platforms, like my AK+ Accelerate program,  also offer a community experience, allowing you to connect and train with other like-minded individuals who are also working towards their fitness goals.

However, there are also some limitations to online personal training. Without the benefit of in-person coaching and guidance, it can be more challenging to maintain proper form and technique. Additionally, some people may prefer the social aspect of working out in a gym environment, and may find it more difficult to stay motivated when working out alone.

In conclusion, online personal training can be an effective and convenient way to achieve your fitness goals, provided that you choose a reputable online personal trainer who can customize a workout plan to meet your needs. While it may not be the best fit for everyone, it is a viable option for those looking for a more flexible and affordable way to stay fit and healthy.
